a two poster day!!!

WOW.. here i don't post forever and today im posting twice... i need to catch up.. who knows maybe it will be three....

OH HOW I LOVE BABY GOATS!!!!! we went on a little field trip to Strawberry AZ.(is this not he cutest name of a town????)  to Fossil Creek goat and llama farm... so fun... we had the best goat milk fudge and goat cheese...... I on the other hand was a little confused about the field trip and I thought that we actually got to milk them and make the fudge ourselves(which i was so extremly excited to do) but we just got to feed the baby goats from a bottle and BUY the fudge... oh well it was still fun... my boys were grateful... before the trip they were saying " we are not milking anything"   what fun is that, I say!!!! Fun homeschooling days!!!!

A New hobby???

So my sweet husband wants to start backpacking as a family and check out new hikes... so for Mothers Day he bought me a new backpack and a new backpacking chair and a backpacking sleeping bag...I love the colors of them... OH and i do love them as well. let me just say my husband LOVES to buy gear!! he's a GEAR GUY!! and NOT the cheap stuff either!!! Well.. we went on a hike as a family and YES we did have fun, even my 4 yo baby dill.. made the trip ALL BY HERFELF!!! And i did get some exercise and it was pretty.... there was water there... in Arizona.....people that live in AZ flock to water....we DID have a good time, Thanks to my sweet big dill pickle!!!!

Some valentine love

I found these really great vintage valentine post card that my great aunt had wrote to my great grandmother. They are post marked 1909, 1910 and 1912. It that not the coolest.... I was actually looking online for some vintage valentines to print up to give my girls and to decorate with... and then I remembered that I have this whole huge stack of post cards that I kept when my great aunt passed away... so i dug them out and i just love them... i can't stop staring at them... thinking about the time when they were given... a simple post card to show their love... no e-cards, email, texts and all the other electronic things we do these days.... i just love to think about simpler times!

oh and here is my new cowl that i crocheted this week, to bad its like 70 degrees out and i can't even where it. Bummer!!! maybe it will get cold again... i guess i should not complain.. with all the midwestern and east coast storms and snow!!!

crafts that i have been making

This was a really ugly lamp shade that I made funky and cute...but be careful turning on the light, as my husband brought to my attention... i guess i need to trim the inside wooden picks... he tried to stick his hand in to turn on the light and got poked...ooopps! Here is a sign that i made for my kitchen... i copied it from craftgossip.com which is my new favorite craft site... a conglomeration of crafters and their cool ideas..... love it!!!

And a trivet that i made for my brother at Christmas, who is going to culinary school.

Make your own laundry soap??

I have been making my own laundry soap and I LOVE IT... i have finally found one the i really like and love the smell of it... so clean smelling!

Grate the bar of fels-naptha with your cheese grater... DO NOT LET THE KIDS MISTAKE IT FOR CHEDDAR... because is does look like it, and it almost happened here.

Add 1 cup washing soda , 1 cup baking soda and 1 cup borax.. I store it in a plastic Tupperware container and use about 1/8 cup per load... it does not get sudsy like normal store bought detergent... but it gets the job done for a fraction of the cost!

P.s. I start the washer and put in the soap and let it fill up about 1/2 way before i put the clothes in, that way the soap can disinagrate first.

Prickly Pear jam!!

I noticed the abundance of prickly pear fruit on my neighbors cactus, and decided to mosey on down and ask if i could pick a peck! And my three year old noticed the heart... so many things us adults look over!!

So my children and i picked quite alot of pecks... what is a peck anyway? Here they are, boiling in my canning pot, then I squeezed all the juice out of them

and got all the juice out, and made some prickly pear jam.. and it looks GOOD!
